“Stop alibiing for not knowing about money”

In Rimini, Cardinal Pell reminded ecclesial managers to be believable even through using modern management methods

Thinking about the complexity of the business world, the Australian Cardinal, First Prefect of the Secretary of Economy for the Holy See, said that it doesn’t have to be an alibi for people working in the Church: «It is morally wrong that a Church leader doesn’t’ care about accounting because “he doesn’t know about money”. A religious person does not have to be expert, but has to be able to smell when something does not square». Otherwise, thieves and bunglers will take the lead.

The Church does not condemn richness a priori, in fact, Pell underlined that «modern accounting methods are probably the best way to grant an honest and expert management; religious authority has the moral obligation of having adequate earnings…the patrimony has to be maintained and used for the Church aims», calling to mind that «pastoral needs of people come first».
